With the aims of helping the poor and the needy people of our society including institutions like orphanages, home for the mentally challenged, adopted villages by Sri  Sathya Sai Seva Organization, Pattom unit, (through Village Integrated Project), we have started the functioning of the Charity Club in our Vidyalaya  during this Academic Year.  More than 125 students from Classes VI – XII have joined as members.  The aims and objectives of the club, and activities to be done etc. were announced in the Morning Assembly.  Students and staff members were asked to contribute a handful of rice to the charity box kept in the school towards the Annapoorneswari Project at least once in a month.

Contributions

1. Given more than 160 Kg. of rice donated by the staff and students to Sri Sathya Sai Seva Organisation, Pattom, Thiruvanathapuram, for the Village Integrated Project for distributing to the poor people in the adopted village.

1. Given 30 kg. of rice and some snacks to the T.B. Patient’s Rehabilitation Centre, Pulayanarkotta, Thiruvananthapuram.  Four teachers and 34 students of the Charity Club visited the centre on 23.10.2008 and handed over the contributions to the Mother Superior.  She expressed her happiness and blessed out students.  She said the organization expects such contributions in future.

1. Visited the Grama Jyothi Special School, Nalanchira, Thiruvananthapuram on 19.12.2008 and donated an amount of Rs.2000/- contributed by the staff students of the school towards the Charity box.

Given new cloths to all the 16 inmates of the T.B. patients’ Rehabilitation Centre, Pulayanarkotta, Thiruvanathapuram on 22^nd April, 2009

Activities of the Charity Club during 2009-10

A meeting  of the members of the charity club was held on 8/10/2009 and discussed the activities to be done during the academic year 2009-10,  45  students have attended the meeting and decided to visit the Palliative Care unit of the RCC, Medical College, Trivandrum in December, 2009.   Based on the meeting 33 students and 6 teachers of the Charity Club visited the centre on 4^th December, 2009.  Dr. Prashanth , a practicing doctor at the palliative unit briefed about the hospital administration and showed the palliative and other units of the hospital.  On behalf of the Charity Club we donated Rs.5,000/- (five thousand) only to the centre.

On April 26^th  2010, 40 students  and 4 teachers of the Charity Club visited the T.B. Patient’s’ rehabilitation centre, Pulayanarkotta, Thiruvananthapuram.  As per the request given by the centre, we have donated a transistor radio, mosquito nets, and food items to the inmates.  The centre-in-charge, Mother superior briefed about the functioning of the centre to our students.

Activities of the Charity Club during 2010 – 2011

In September, 2011 handed over 25 k.g. of rice contributed by our students towards ” the Annapurneswari  Rice Project”  to Sri Sathya Sai Seva Organisation, Pattom unit            .  The Office bearer of the Organization, Shri Kannan Kutty  received the rice for distributing to the Village integrated programme.

Charity Visit at Cheshire Home on 11^th January, 2011

49 students  and 4 teachers of the Charity Club visited the Cheshire home on 11/1/2011.  The Administrative Officer explained the functioning of the centre to our students.  Cheshire home is the refuge of a group of human beings deprived of the pleasures of life by physical disability.  Disabled from birth, disabled by cruel twist of destiny, the inmates have myriad reasons to recount.  Our students and teachers interacted with the inmates and shared their experiences.  On behalf of the Charity Club, we donated an amount of Rs.2,500/- and sweets (ladu) to all the inmates.
